Message from the Graduate School Dean
Today, the world is facing many crises such as population growth, climate change caused by human activities, and resource depletion, and there are major issues to be solved such as securing sustainable food, resources and energy, and reducing greenhouse gases. The role of agricultural science is becoming increasingly important in solving these social issues for the human survival on the earth. Agricultural science is an important academic field that supports the development of a sustainable society and the creation of new industries in the 22nd century, including the production and utilization of safe and secure food, biomass and other renewable resources and energy, global environmental conservation, biodiversity, reduction of greenhouse gases, and realization of a decarbonized society. The United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, consisting of Ibaraki University, Utsunomiya University, and Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, aims to develop as a core doctoral school in Japan and Asia, as stated in the Admission Policy: Pursue creative and functional education to acquire a broad perspective, advanced specialized knowledge, understanding, insight, and practical skills. Our United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2025. This United Graduate School conducts practical education and research with the aim of fostering doctoral human resources who challenge difficult social issues.
